MISS AMERICA’S OUTSTANDING TEEN 2018 CROWNED IN ORLANDO

 
Orlando, FL, July 30, 2017 — Jessica Baeder was crowned Miss America’s Outstanding Teen 2018 on Saturday, July 29 in Orlando at the Orange County Convention Center. Baeder is the embodiment of MAOTeen’s mission to be the nation’s leading program for scholastic achievement, healthy living and community involvement of our nation’s youth.
With Miss America Savvy Shields looking on, Baeder accepted the crown and a thirty thousand dollar scholarship toward her college education provided by The Harris Rosen Foundation and the Orlando Scholarship Foundation, Inc. The 17-year old resides in Auburn, Alabama. Speaking to audiences about her platform, “Healthy Food For All,” Miss America’s Outstanding Teen will also act as the official National Teen Goodwill Ambassador for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, a non-profit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for children’s hospitals.
“The MAOTeen organization is always impressed by the leadership skills as well as academic and community achievements of these inspiring young women,” said Steve Frocchi, Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Vice President of Marketing and Development. “Jessica flourished in this group of extremely hard-working and talented students.”
Jessica is a member of the National Honor Society, Mathematics Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society at Auburn High School, maintaining a 4.2 GPA. She plans to utilize her scholarships won to pursue her scholastic ambition of obtaining her MD and become an orthopedic surgeon.

The first runner-up was Miss Georgia’s Outstanding Teen, Annie Swan, who earned a $10,000scholarship with her personal platform, Raise a Voice for ALS.”
Second runner-up honors and a $7,500 scholarship were awarded to Maryland’s Outstanding Teen, Chloe Wildman, with her personal platform, “Suffering in Silence: The Invisible Illness.”
Third runner-up and the winner of a $5,000 scholarship was Miss Texas’ Outstanding Teen, Stephanie Wendt. Her personal platform is “#SpeadTheSmile.”
The winner of a $2,000 scholarship and fourth runner-up was Miss Michigan’s Outstanding Teen, Katie Preston. Her platform is “Youth Coping with Anxiety; Your Story Isn’t Over Yet.”
Miss Minnesota’s Outstanding Teen, Emily Schumacher, was the winner of America’s Choice, an online competition where viewers were given the opportunity to vote for their favorite Miss America’s Outstanding Teen contestant and guarantee them a spot as a semi-finalist and a $1,000 scholarship. She became the 11th Semi-Finalist to compete in the finale.

2017 MAOTeen Production Team announced

THE 2017 MISS AMERICA’S OUTSTANDING TEEN PAGEANT
For the 13th consecutive year, JM BEST ENTERTAINMENT of Orlando has been named the Producer of the 2017 Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Pageant to be held at the Linda Chapin Theatre at the Orange County Convention Center July 25th – July 29th.  JM BEST ENTERTAINMENT produces television and special events all over the country including: The Nashville Christmas Parade, The US Dream Academy Gala, The National Cherry Blossom and National Memorial Day Parades in Washington, DC, the 4th of July Parades both in Washington, DC and Philadelphia, The Magnificent Mile Lights Festival in Chicago and Philadelphia’s Thanksgiving Day Parade to name a few.
John M Best is a 3-time EMMY Award winning producer for the Walt Disney World Christmas Day Parade for ABC, The Chicago Auto Show and The Magnificent Mile Lights Festival for WLS-TV in Chicago.  He is in pre-production for the 98th Anniversary of the 6ABC Dunkin Donuts Thanksgiving Day Parade in Philadelphia, The Magnificent Mile Lights Festival in Chicago, The Nashville Christmas Parade and The Chicago Auto Show.
When it was time to welcome Pope Francis to the United States and open the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia, John teamed with Access Philadelphia and long-time producing partner Maria DiBenedetto to produce that historical event.  The team also produced the opening Kick-off Event last summer for over 7,000 Volunteers for the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.

Miss America, MAOTeen, and Contestants to participate in Children’s Miracle Network Dance Marathon

Atlantic City, NJ (July 10, 2017) –  The Miss America and Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Organization’s are excited to announce Miss America 2017 Savvy Shields and Miss America’s Outstanding Teen 2017 Nicole Jia will join the Miss America and MAOTeen contestants in Orlando, Florida, this July to participate in a Children’s Miracle Network Dance Marathon!

In 1991, students at Indiana University founded dance marathon in the memory of Ryan White, a fellow student who passed away from HIV/AIDS. The program now spans North America, benefiting hundreds of hospitals and countless kids in the United States and Canada. Dance marathons have become a tradition on campus and in the community.
The Miss America Organization, Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Organization, and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals will host the marathon on July 28, 2017 from 7-10 pm ET at The Rosen Centre  during the national MAOTeen Competition and the Miss America contestant orientation. Miss America Savvy Shields and MAOTeen Nicole Jia will emcee and do their part to keep the contestants dancing and raising funds for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals!

 



Miss America Contestant Donations:

All donations made in the name of a national Miss America contestant during the dance marathon July 28, 2017 from 7-10 pm ET will count towards the marathon total and benefit their overall national contestant fundraising.

To make a donation during the marathon, visit: www.missamericaforkids.org. Click “Search for a Contestant” then enter the contestants first name, last name, and state. Select the contestants personal donation page from the list and make your donation. Or, check out our contestants social media accounts for their individual donation links and help raise funds for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and Miss America scholarships!

Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Contestant Donations:

All donations made in the name of a national MAOTeen contestant during the dance marathon July 28, 2017 from 7-10 pm ET will count towards the marathon total and benefit the contestants fundraising total for the MAOTeen Miracle Maker Award. The fundraising deadline for this award has been extended to July 28, 2017 at 10 pm.

2017 MAOTeen Judges Panel

ANNOUNCING THE 2017 MAOTEEN COMPETITION PANEL OF JUDGES
Meet the panel that will select Miss America’s Outstanding Teen 2018 live in Orlando, Florida at the Linda Chapin Theater in the Orange County Convention Center
 
Tampa, FL (July 7, 2017) – The MAOTeen Organization announced today the distinguished panel of judges that will have the tough job of narrowing the field of 51 to just 1…MAOTeen 2018!
From preliminary competition to the event finals, these judges will be looking for the young lady that represents the best of America’s outstanding teens.

DR. DEBBYE TURNER BELL
Miss America 1990, Dr. Debbye Turner Bell, is a veterinarian, journalist, minister, motivational speaker, wife and mother. For three years she served as the lead U.S. anchor for Arise News, a global news network, and she was staff correspondent for CBS News for 11 years, being dubbed The Early Show’sresident veterinarian and periodically reporting for the CBS Evening News. Currently, she can be seen as an expert contributor to the show DOGS 101 on Animal Planet. She graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture from Arkansas State.

BENJAMIN BRECHER

Benjamin Brecher, an operatic and concert tenor, has gained great acclaim with his many performances on the opera and concert stages. Having performed over 50 operatic roles with more than 40 orchestras at some of the world’s most prestigious venues, including 15 roles with the New York Opera, Mr. Brecher specializes in the high lyric tenor repertoire. He is currently an Associate Professor of Voice at the University of California at Santa Barbara. Benjamin is a graduate of the Juilliard Opera Center, the New England Conservatory of Music and Bowling Green State University.

PROFESSOR HILARY LEVEY FRIEDMAN
Professor Hilary Levey Friedman is a sociologist who teaches courses on after-school activities, pageantry, and sports at Brown University. She holds degrees from Harvard University, Princeton University and the University of Cambridge. Her first book, Playing to Win: Raising Children in a Competitive Culture, follows families with elementary school-age children involved in chess, dance, and soccer, covering the activities, what they mean to parents and children and the implications for inequality and gender in the educational system.

SINEAD NORENIUS
Sinead Norenius is a business development and marketing executive with strong social media roots with the beauty and fashion industries. She is currently a partner at The Pienza Collective, where she helps clients navigate the ever-changing landscape of e-commerce technology, digital marketing, social media strategy and influencer outreach, along with preparing clients for TV Shopping (QVC, HSN, Evine) and other retail distribution channels. She was also the Founder and CEO of the premium influencer marketing network, iFabbo. iFabbo was a spinoff of Sinead’s skincare company, Beautisol, a luxury sunless tanning brand.

JULIA (JULIE) CARELL STADLER
Julie Stadler’s passion for competitive ballroom dancing inspired her to create Dance Network, the first-ever digital network which showcases all styles of dance in one place. Stadler is co-owner in Carell Family, LLC, a commercial real estate investment firm. Julie and her sisters continue their family’s philanthropic legacy of supporting their community and issues surrounding the health and wellness of children. She currently serves on the Board of Monroe Carell, Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.

DR. JAMIE WELLS

Dr. Jamie Wells, MD, FAAP, is a Board-Certified physician with over a decade of experience caring for patients and the Director of Medicine at the American Council on Science and Health. She served as a Clinical Instructor/Attending at NYU Langone, Mt. Sinai-Beth Israel and St. Vincent’s Medical Centers in Manhattan. Dr. Wells not only graduated from Yale University with honors and was inducted as a junior and elected President of Jefferson Medical College’s Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society; but also, has been named a New York Super Doctor.
