ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (September 10, 2017) – Miss North Dakota, Cara Mund, was crowned Miss America 2018 tonight at the birthplace of the legendary competition in Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall for its 97th Anniversary broadcast on the ABC Television Network. Returning for his 9th time as host, Chris Harrison was joined by co-host Sage Steele and celebrity judges Maria Menounos, Thomas Rhett, Molly Sims, Jordin Sparks, Tara Lipinski, MissAmerica 2014 Nina Davuluri and PEOPLE Editor in Chief Jess Cagle.
Mund’s acceptance of the highly-coveted crown is just the beginning of a journey that will take her to every corner of the nation and around the world during her year of service as MissAmerica 2018. She will embark on her national speaking tour about her platform, A Make-A-Wish Passion with Fashion, and act as the official National Goodwill Ambassador for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, a non-profit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for its 170 member hospitals, is the national platform partner of theMissAmerica Organization.
Cara is an Ivy League honors graduate from Brown University who is headed to law school. At age 14, Cara founded North Dakota’s Annual Make-A-Wish Fashion Show. For 10 years, Cara has brightened 23 Wish Kids’ lives, became a “Certified Wish Granter,” and raised more than $78,500 for Make-A-Wish. In 2011, President Barack Obama recognized Cara’s charitable efforts. Cara is a national dance champion and trained four summers with The Rockettes. Cara’s recent work in the United States Senate and her passion for helping others ignited her own wish – to become the first MissAmerica from North Dakota.
The first runner-up in the competition was Miss Missouri, Jennifer Davis, who earned a $25,000 scholarship. Her talent was a Bollywood dance routine and her personal platform is United We Stand, Divided We Fall: Diversity Matters. The second runner-up is Miss New Jersey, Kaitlyn Schoeffel, who received a $20,000 scholarship. Her talent was dance, and her personal platform is Operation Empowerment. Third runner-up Miss District of Columbia Briana Kinsey received a $15,000 scholarship. Her talent was pop vocal, and her platform is Daring to Defeat Diabetes. Fourth runner-upMiss Texas Margana Wood is awarded a $10,000 scholarship. Her talent was contemporary dance and her platform is You Belong.
The 51 contestants, who represented all 50 states and the District of Columbia, participated in preliminary competitions earlier in the week. Miss Illinois, Abby Foster, was the winner of “America‘s Choice,” an online competition where viewers were given the opportunity to vote for their favorite MissAmerica contestant entirely on social media. The winner of “America’s Choice” advanced to the Top 15 in the competition.

Atlantic City, NJ (September 9, 2017) – During the second of three preliminary nights of “The 2018 Miss America Competition” in Boardwalk Hall, the Miss America Organization announced the Quality of Life, STEM, and Women in Business Scholarship Awards on stage.
The Jean Bartel Quality of Life Scholarship is awarded to the contestants who have gone above and beyond in their dedication to community service and improving the lives of others. The second runner-up and recipient of a $2,000 scholarship is Miss South Carolina Suzi Roberts, the first runner-up and recipient of a $4,000 scholarship is Miss North Dakota Cara Mund, and the recipient of the 2018 Jean Bartel Quality of Life $6,000 Scholarship Award is Miss Alabama Jessica Procter.

The Miss America Foundation STEM Scholarship is awarded to three contestants pursuing an education in STEM (science, technology, engineering, or math) related fields. The recipients of the three $5,000 scholarship awards for a total of $15,000 are Miss District of Columbia Briana Kinsey, Miss Kentucky Molly Matney, and Miss Massachusetts Jillian Zucco.
For the second year, the Miss America Foundation also awarded two Women in Business Scholarship Awards to two exceptional contestants with a declared major in business or business related studies. The recipients of these two $5,000 scholarship awards totaling $10,000 are Miss Colorado Meredith Winnefeld and Miss Ohio Sarah Jeanne Clapper.
Also announced on stage were three categories of Miracle Maker Awards: Local, State, and National.
The Local Miracle Maker Award was created last year by the Miss America Organization and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals to recognize the top 3 local titleholders across the country who raised the most funds leading into their state competitions. All recipients were awarded a scholarship and round trip travel to Atlantic City for “The 2018 Miss America Competition!” Local Miracle Maker 2nd Runner-up ($2,000): Chelsea Yarber from Alabama 1st Runner-up ($3,000): Greeshma Reddy from Kansas Winner ($5,000): Miss South Carolina Suzi Roberts! Laryssa is now a double preliminary winner after her Thursday evening win for Lifestyle and Fitness. She will receive a $2,000 scholarship. Also capturing the spotlight was Miss Florida, Sara Zeng, who was the preliminary Lifestyle and Fitness winner. Sara will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

Atlantic City, NJ (September 6, 2017) – On Wednesday, August 31st, the 2018 Miss America Contestants gathered in front of Historic Boardwalk Hall to celebrate the Miss America Competition’s 97th Anniversary. The Miss America Organization is proud to announce the continuation of AtlantiCare, a member of Geisinger, as an Official Sponsor of the annual Miss America Arrival Ceremony for its fifth consecutive year.
Welcoming the contestants to Atlantic City included MAO partners, sponsors, and government dignitaries, including: The Hon. Don Guardian, Mayor of Atlantic City; Mr. Chris Howard, Executive Director, Casino Reinvestment Development Authority; Dr. Marilouise Venditti, MD, Chief Medical Officer, AtlantiCare; Sam Haskell, III, Executive Chairman & CEO, Miss America Organization; Lynn H. Weidner, Chairman of the Board, Miss America Organization; and Josh Randle, President & COO, Miss America Organization.
After each of the 51 contestants took the stage to make their introductions, the Miss America Foundation announced the finalists for the Jean Bartel Quality of Life Scholarship Award, the STEM Scholarship Award, and the Women in Business Scholarship Award on stage.
The 2018 Jean Bartel Quality of Life Award was introduced in 1988 to recognize contestants who excel in their commitment to community service. The winner of the Quality of Life Award will receive a $6,000 scholarship, the first runner-up will receive a $4,000 scholarship, and the second runner-up will receive a $2,000 scholarship — a total of $12,000. The Quality of Life Awards are awarded and funded by The Miss America Foundation, Inc.
